I had the opportunity to travel home yesterday. Home is Minburn, Iowa for me. Traditions are common in every household, mine happens to be homemade apple pie. My mom was in charge of slicing the apples for the delicious treat. My sister, Erin, was in charge of creating the dutch apple crumbly topping. I was in charge of creating the crust.
I like dutch apple pie the best, because having two crusts to cut through decreases the flavor of the apples and also is too unhealthy. Even though the crumbly topping contains a whole stick of margarine, it is less carbohydrates for the dessert. Really though, if we're worried about calories, why would we be eating a pie?
The pie cooked for 45 minutes and then I had to wait a couple hours and dinner before I could bite into the delectable dessert. If an apple pie wasn't enough, try warming it up in the microwave for 30 seconds and scooping Anderson Erickson all natural vanilla ice cream on top. Be sure to let the ice cream melt a bit before the first bite is taken. YUMMY! Warm apple pie scents all around.
