Progress on my PRSSA poster

I cut out letters the other day for our PRSSA poster. Its a 3d look that I am going for. We are collecting photos to add to the board which were taken at the fashion show they held last year sponsoring Goodwill. Other photos include ones we took at our booth during the homecoming celebration. There were teams that signed up to play in a bags tournament. Winners were given a gift card to the campus bookstore along with a bag of goodies that I displayed in a previous post. Hopefully after fall break, April and I will be able to finish the poster and the finished product will be completed.

Signs of Fall

Fall is here at last! I was at the mall yesterday and was amazed at all the great smelling candles at Yankee Candle, lotions at Bath and Body Works, and the Christmas decorations in Scheels? They jumped ahead of the game I suppose.

Fall break is this week for me and I can't wait to go home. Fun activities are soon to be had among me and my family. I am going to be carving pumpkins, quilting, hunting, and cooking up some great treats. Of those treats, the traditional chocolate chip cookies will be made due to my fathers obsession with them. It is so easy to make the mans day.

My sister and I will hopefully be carving pumpkins, so be sure to come take a look at our masterpieces. It is just a feel good time of year. Even with the two tests I have this week, I'm ready for Wednesday to arrive.
Here is a picture that says it all:

PRSSA

I recently began a project involving the group PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America). My friend April and I are in charge of creating a new poster to market our group and encourage other classmates to join. This year we are in charge of the annual fashion show, which requires participants to pick out an outfit from the local Goodwill and rock their stuff on the stage in front of the Simpson College student body.

Another activity we are involved in is marketing the Women's NCAA basketball team. We are partnering with the Iowa Events Center in the Grass Roots marketing plan. This plan requires us to place cutouts of basketball players in storefronts around the sky walk and throughout Des Moines, spray chalk stencils on streets, place stickers of women's basketball players on sky walks, give away basketballs with the NCAA logo to children within the local Indianola and surrounding areas. These are some activities, among many others, that are part of this event.

An additional activity we have taken on is advertising our school's literary and artistic magazine, the SEQUEL. This gives students the opportunity to display their creative writings and artwork to the student body. Creative writings include poems, short stories, and photographs. It is published annually which makes marketing for the magazine important.

I'm very excited to complete our poster and hope it brings new members to the group! Here is a little sample of what we've accomplished:

How exciting!

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, maybe not in this form.....

I had the opportunity to travel home yesterday. Home is Minburn, Iowa for me. Traditions are common in every household, mine happens to be homemade apple pie. My mom was in charge of slicing the apples for the delicious treat. My sister, Erin, was in charge of creating the dutch apple crumbly topping. I was in charge of creating the crust.

I like dutch apple pie the best, because having two crusts to cut through decreases the flavor of the apples and also is too unhealthy. Even though the crumbly topping contains a whole stick of margarine, it is less carbohydrates for the dessert. Really though, if we're worried about calories, why would we be eating a pie?

The pie cooked for 45 minutes and then I had to wait a couple hours and dinner before I could bite into the delectable dessert. If an apple pie wasn't enough, try warming it up in the microwave for 30 seconds and scooping Anderson Erickson all natural vanilla ice cream on top. Be sure to let the ice cream melt a bit before the first bite is taken. YUMMY! Warm apple pie scents all around.

A New Monster

I am involved in PRSSA, which is a group on campus that deals with advertising, fund-raising and hands-on experiences. We celebrated Homecoming this weekend and at our booth in the parking lot we sold homecoming shirts, which were created and drawn by one of our own Simpson football players. Another item we sold were baked goods.
One of the baked goods was a new form of monster cookie
Ingredients:
  • Whole Wheat Flour-2 1/4 cup
  • Brown Sugar- 3/4 cup
  • Sugar- 3/4 cup
  • Shortening- 1 cup
  • Vanilla- 1 tsp
  • Salt- 1 tsp
  • Soda- 1 tsp
  • Oatmeal- 1 cup
  • Peanut Butter- 1 cup
  • and the best ingredient ever Peanut Butter M&Ms- 1 bag
These cookies were hot items at the booth along with skotcharoos, dark chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip cookies and muffins (blueberry, cinnamon streusel).
Tasty treats for a great Homecoming tailgating time!

Camerons Pumpkin Spice Coffee

It is the time of year when companies are putting out their fall items on the shelves at the grocery store. I was on a lucky streak last night when I hit Hy-Vee. In the coffee aisle they were featuring Camerons holiday blends of coffees which consisted of the most cherished one, Pumpkin Spice. Among the other tasty blends, they also featured an iced gingerbread, peppermint stick and an egg nog flavored blend.
I love fall and having these within my grasp made waking up this morning an easy task. It helped that I also lit a pumpkin scented Yankee candle.
Today is suppose to be a great day, so get that coffee brewed and take a morning stroll. The crunch of the leaves are one step away.

Calorie Free with Erythritol

I was at Holy Grounds the other day in Indianola where I came across the no-calorie sweetener Truvia. One of the main ingredients in this sweetener is Erythritol. I was curious to know how this was a no-calorie sweetener, so I set out on a mission.
Erythritol is a sweetener that is found in other food products. Pears are one of the main sources of Erythritol. Other sources include: mushrooms, melons, grapes and mushrooms. Since these sources are common in the average diet, it is to no surprise that packaging it to consumers would result in consumption. People are always looking for a way to fill the need of sugar without the punch and Erythritol helps Truvia in doing so.
Erythritol, unlike other sweeteners, prevents teeth from rotting. The ingredients in this sugar alcohol actually aids in the prevention of cavities.
Another benefit to Erythritol is that it does not hurt insulin levels, which means the addition of this sugar alcohol to food or beverages will not cause blood sugar levels to spike resulting in hunger pains.
I am glad that I have found a close to no-calorie sweetener that I can add to my coffee without feeling guilty and thinking that I might have to add an extra mile to the tread of my tennis shoes.
